The game enterprise in Bulgaria is presented by 22,500 red deer, 4,900 fallow deer, 78,000 row deer, 2,100 chamois, 2,500 mouflons, over 37,500 boars, over 8,000 bears, 2,2000 capercallies, hares, partidges, pheasnts.

One of the best red deer populations in the world is in Bulgaria. Among its trophies our country has 4 world records of red deer (including the present one with 273.60 CIC points) and of boars with 158.20 CIC points. Most of the capital trophies evaluated at over 250 CIC points are Bulgarian.

The newly bred populations of red deer and mountions develop very well, too. Bulgaria ranks second in the world by quality of good throphies.

Bulgaria is famous worldwide for its best quality trophies of red deer and wild boar.

BIG GAME FOR TROPHIES

Shooting with hunting rifle is only allowed Red deer, fallow deer, roe, moufflon, and wild boar are hunted through "waiting" (waylay), at nightfall or early in the morning, around the places where quarry go out for food. Low or raised hides are used. In the rutting season red deer is hunted through "calling" and "stalking"
Wild goats are hunted through "waylay" ("waiting"), "stalking" and "still-hunting"
Capercaillie (cock of the wood) is hunted in the mating season, when cocks display together and sing in a "lek", through "approaching" during "drumming" - the closing phase of their song. Dear hunting is allowed only for carnivorous flesh-eating bears through "waiting" near the bait (remains of the bear's victim)

INDIVIDUAL HUNTING OF DOMESTIC AND MIGRATORY GAME

Hare, partridge, rock partridge, pheasant, snipe and quail are hunted through "coursing" using hunting dogs- fowlers.

Wood pigeon, turtledove, wild duck and loose are hunted through "waiting" and "stalking" A shotgun with bird-shot charge is used, the pellet size depending on the game.

GROUP (COLLECTIVE) HUNTING – DRIVING

Driving is applied mainly for hunting of wild boar, pheasant and hare, using hunting dogs and shouters. On a request made in advance, during bunting, regardless of the method used, hunters will be allowed to shoot: wolf fox, wild cat and other fair.

	QUAIL(Coturnix coturnix) Quail is a migratory bird that nests everywhere through the country. Local quails take-off the South earlier and after them, "passage quails" from the north fly over the country. Hunting period: from 15.08 to 30.09
	WOOD PIGEON (Columba palumbus) Wood pigeon is found everywhere in the country. Hunting period: from 15.08 to 31.12
	WILD DUCK AND GOOSE Hunting period: from 01. 09 to31.01, only fair game species are hunted.
	CAPERCAILLIE (Tetrao urogallus) Capercailie is found in the high areas of the Rila Mountain, the Pirin Mountain and the Rhodopes. Only cocks are hunted during the pairing period. from 25.04 to 15.05 - an interesting and emotionally thrilling hunting experience.
	WILD BOAR (Sus scrofa) Wild boar is found everywhere in the country: in the plains and in the mountains as well.Amounts to 33,000 animals. Bulgaria is among the European countries enjoying the best wild boar trophies.The world record is in possession of Bulgaria: 158.20 CIC-points.Trophies with lower tusks (teeth) of 16-22 cm average length predominate It is not a problem to shoot wild boars with 25-29 cm average tusk length. Period of hunting for trophies: from 01.06 to 31.01. Female animals and young pigs are hunted through "driving" - from 01.10 to 31.12. November and December are the most favourable hunting months
	BROWN BEAR (Ursus arctos) Brown bear is a typical Bulgarian game since ancient times till now. It Inhabits mountain areas. Amounts to 800 animals. Trophies of 350 CIC-points are optimal. The national world record is 560.50 CIC-points The game season is from 01.03 to 15.04 and from 01.09 to 31.12 only for flesh-eating bears.

REED DEER (Cervus elaphus)

Red deer is the largest and the most regal representative of the game fauna in the country. Its population increases every year. In 1996 it amounts to 25,000. The average trophy weight is 7-9 kg. It is not a problem to shoot a stag with 12 kg antlers of 250 CIC-points. It is recognized that the world record of 273. 61 CIC-points and 16.8 kg antlers is in possession of Bulgaria. Hunting period: from 01.09 - 31.01, hunting in September and October being most effective

FALLOW DEER (Cervus dama)

In the beginning of this century, fallow deer was acclimatised to various areas in Bulgaria. Its population amounts to 7,000 animals. The average trophy weight is 3-4 kg. T'he national record is 207.5 CIC- points and 4.8 kg. Hunting period: from 01.09 to 30.01. October is the optimal time for hunting

MOUFFLON (Ovis musimon)

In tile middle of this century, moufflons from Central Europe become acclimatised to some areas in Bulgaria. The moufflon population amounts to 7,000 animals. The average trophy weight is 3-4 kg. The national record is 207.5 CIC-points and 4.8 kg. Hunting period: from 01.09. to 31.01.; female and young: from 01.10. to 31.01. October is the optimal time for hunting.
